The surroundings
The surrounding areas of Podere Tremulini, stretch between Chianti and Maremma, and include some of the most famous spots in Tuscany: Medieval Siena, evocative San Gimignano, Etruscan Volterra. It is great to visit them on horse back
There are many other places less famous but just as fascinating, such as Pievi di Pievescola and Mensano with their thousands of years of history, the little towns of Radicondoli and Casole D’Elsa with its Etruscan museum, Colle di Val D’Elsa and its crystal exhibitions, and Monteriggioni with its medieval festivals.
Being located in a land full of history and art, the Equestrian Centre Podere Tremulini will give you the chance to see magnificent places on horse back, such as the Abbey of San Galgano, and beautiful views from the Colline metallifere and the Montagnola Senese. |
The excursions on horse back
The Abbey of San Galgano
The Abbey of San Galgano is one of the most evocative Cistercian Gothic buildings in Italy, dating back to the XII century.
Near the abbey, on the hill of Monte Siepi the Chapel of San Galgano holds the famous sword-on-the-stone, a much studied but unsolved mystery.
The excursion organised, foresees a stop over night by the river Merse, where it is possible to enjoy a swim in the magnificent natural pools.
The Colline Metallifere
The walks over the Colline Metallifere can follow two main trails.
One of them will take you to the Castle of Berignone (known also as “Torraccia”) owned since 896 by Adalberto Marchese of Tuscany and donated to the Bishops of Volterra before the year 1000. The other will take you to the Rock of Sillano, an imposing bulwark dating to the XII century which guards the valleys of Passera and Pavone.
The Montagnola Senese
To the South-East of the Podere Tremulini, the excursions will take you to the Montagnola Senese covering sections of the Via Francigena, the ancient medieval road once used by pilgrims and crusaders who travelled to Jerusalem from the north. Today it is still paved with the original paving stones.
The road is full of important and evocative monuments built in mediaeval times such as Castel Pietraia, the Romanic Church of Pernina, the ancient Borgo di Monteauto.
